Board accepts 287(g) police funding, updates union contract

NH AUBURN — Auburn board accepts federal 287(g) police funding and updates union contract. The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved a modified memorandum of understanding with the Auburn Police Union, NEPBA Local 216, effective May 17, 2026, updating outside detail language and rates. The board also accepted unanticipated revenue from a 287(g) Service Agreement with the US Department of Homeland Security, including a $100,000 one-time transportation stipend and $50,000 in recurring quarterly equipment stipends.
Police Chief Charles Chabot recommended allocating $72,000 toward a police vehicle purchase and using additional equipment funds for existing budget expenses including a replacement generator and computer server.
