Police Commission addresses resident questions on 287(g) ICE agreement

NH AUBURN — Auburn Police Commission meets to defend 287(g) immigration enforcement agreement. Commissioner Patrick Bergeron fielded written resident questions about the immigration enforcement arrangement the Police Chief signed with ICE, addressing concerns about transparency, racial profiling, and community safety. Seven Auburn officers completed 14 hours of mandated training during duty time, and the agreement has resulted in two immigration-related arrests since implementation.
The town received $152,514 in reimbursement funds, with $100,000 allocated for transportation and $52,514 for IT and equipment, and will continue quarterly reimbursements of approximately $52,000. Bergeron confirmed the Chief has statutory authority to enter into such agreements independently and that the commission became aware of the MOA on January 13, 2026.
